Studies of autistic adults, especially those that are seniors, have been limited. Join us as four leading researchers share some of their findings and discuss topics such as dementia, diabetes, GI issues, Parkinson's, and improving quality of life for autistic seniors. We will have presentations by top researchers out of  Australia, and the United States and time for the audience to ask questions as we discuss the unique challenges that autistic individuals face as they age.

About the Speakers

Dr. Wenn Lawson

Dr. Wenn, (Phd) autistic lecturer, psychologist, researcher, advocate, writer and poet has passionately shared professional and personal knowledge of autism over the past 3 decades. He has written/contributed to over 25 books and many papers. Wenn is an Associate Researcher with Curtin University (WA), Macquarie University (NSW) and the University of Southern Queensland, Tutor Practitioner with the University of Birmingham’s (UK) Masters Autism course, member of the autism Co-operative Research Centre (ACRC), Co-Chair of the Autism Research Council, Australia, Ambassador for ‘I CAN’, Australia, and on the Editorial Board ‘Autism in Adulthood’. Dr. Wenn is also a member of The ND Co. Australia, and a family man with autistic offspring and grandchildren. In 2008 Dr. Wenn won 4th. place as Victorian Australian of The Year & in 2017 he presented to the United Nations on matters of Autism and ageing.

Stephen M. Edelson

Stephen M. Edelson, Ph.D. has been active in the field of autism for over 40 years. He has conducted research in a variety of areas including biomedical/medical, behavioral, nutrition, sensory, and cognition; and he has published peer-reviewed research articles with many notables in the autism field including Drs. Bernard Rimland, Ivar Lovaas, Temple Grandin, Melvin Kaplan, and Margaret Bauman.  Dr. Edelson is the editor of the quarterly science newsletter, the Autism Research Review International, and recently co-edited the books Understanding and Treating Self-Injurious Behavior in Autism and Understanding and Treating Anxiety in Autism. He is a former Board member of the Autism Society of America and participates on their Panel of Professional Advisors.
